How do I go from Greenacres shopping centre to Summerstrand Using Taxis

That awkward moment of walking up to a complete stranger to ask “where can I find taxis to Place XYZ”. If you ever stayed in Johannesburg, you know that, posing that question to the wrong person can get you mugged, because you have just revealed:

– You don’t know where you going

– You are scared and desperate

I do it though and I am sure most people do it too. The trick is to ask someone who is either; a taxi driver, taxi queue marshal, a decent looking security guard or a decent looking old women. At least that’s what I do and it has always worked to date.

So to get to the directions to Summerstrand from Greenacres using taxis:

1) You will want to exit the mall using the doors that are leading towards the Greenacres Hospital and Cape Road direction. If you are at Checkers store, turn left and once outside you will notice taxis on the left. The que marshals will likely be yelling “Town! Town!”. Those are the taxis you take.

If they are no queue marshals and its quite, just go to the taxi, open the door, greet whoever is inside the taxi. Then ask them, if the taxi is going to PE central.. now known as Gqeberha Central. You don’t want to assume its going there then later regret when you find yourself at the wrong destination.

The taxi fare from Greenacres to Gqeberha central is R12 (last i remember).

When you get to Central just ask the driver or the person sitting next to you to show you taxis to Summerstrand when you get off the taxi. Normally the taxis will be standing and the queue marshal will be aware of new people getting off the taxi so he will come over and ask where you are all going, or ask if you are going to Summerstrand.

Taxi fare from PE Central to Summerstrand is R10.

Ladies and gents that concludes the post. Travel safe. If this post helped at all. Please like and share.

Early Experience With Taxis

Where do I begin? Oh! I know! The days when going from Diepsloot township to Randburg was R4.00 imagine! I’m not sure whether to say “how far the Rand currency has fallen” orΒ  just a “how the times have changed”.

Either way, back in those days, I’d use taxis with my parents. It was very rare to meet children/young teenagers travelling alone. Nowadays it’s more common.

Funny it was safer at taxi ranks then that it is now, yet more youngsters travel by taxis without parents.

Maybe the saying is true, tough times make us stronger. Maybe all this crime has brought out the fearlessness and courageous nature in people (πŸ˜…).

Travelling all this 30km was R4 once upon a time.
